The strip welding unit with incorporated end-squaring shear serves to cut the strip ends perpendicular and to join the leading strip end of a coil with the trailing strip end of the preceeding coil.

This unit consists of an end-squaring shear and a mechanized welder with strip clamping devices mounted on a common base.

The pinch roll of the strip accumulator pulls the strip through until the trailing strip end is lying in proper position in the end-squaring shear, where it will be chopped off. The pinch roll pulls the strip further through until the strip end is lying in proper position for welding. The clamping device for the trailing strip end will be actuated, holding the strip end. In the meantime the leading strip end of the following coil has been fed by the combined pinch roll-levelling machine into the end-squaring shear, where it will be chopped off. The strip end will be pushed further until it touches the already clamped strip end. The required welding gap will be adjusted according to pre-set value. The clamping device for the leading strip end will be actuated. The welding will be performed by a motor powered welding torch. The feeding speed is step-less adjustable. The welding arc will be shielded by Argon/Carbon dioxide gas. The welding source is placed in the base of the unit.
